KAILUA-KONA — Two of the 13 motorists arrested for suspected drunken driving between Nov. 19 and Sunday were involved in traffic crashes, Hawaii Police said Monday.
So far this year, there have been 967 DUI arrests compared with 1,021 during the same period last year, according to data released by the Hawaii Police Department.
During the seven-day period ending Sunday, South Hilo officers arrested five drivers while Kona officers arrested four and Puna officers two. Officers in South Kohala and Ka‘u arrested one motorist in each district.
Through Monday, there have been 28 deaths on Hawaii Island public roads. At this point in 2017, 30 people had lost their lives in traffic crashes.
